It kind of started as a family affair...well, sort of. At one time Fran Krysiak managed a
small discount store owned by her brother. When he decided to retire ten years ago, he
offered Fran the space, which she gladly took over and turned into a gift shop
featuring...yep...you guessed it, Boyds Bears*! Today, Fran is the proprietor of The Old
Blue Barn in Plainville, CT. Literally located in a 100 year-old blue (okay...sort of blue-
grey, but let's not get real picky here...) barn that really used to house cows andthen
hosted other businesses including an antique shop. Hmmm...barns, Boyds Bears*, former
antique shop...this is sounding kinda familiar to another story close to our hearts.
The Old Blue Barn specializes in two things... Boyds Bears* and top-notch customer
service! Fran accomplishes the first by keeping a good stock of Boyds* Stuff in the store.
"I pride myself in having most everything Boyds* makes in stock when it is available,"
Fran told us, and that she does. Her store contains a humongous forest complete with
amazing scenes full of all kinds of Boyds* Stuff! The top-notch customer service comes
from Fran's pride in pleasing her customers over everything else! She will even refer her
customers to friends who are also Boyds* retailers if she doesn't happen to have what a
customer is looking for! The dedication Fran's loyal Boyds* customers show their favorite Bears and Friends never ceases to amaze her. "It amazes me when my customers tell me how many Boyds Bears* they have; 100, 800, and yes, 1,500... wow!" she says, "I don't think there are a lot of other bear companies that can say that about their collectors!" Fran credits it all to great products and "a man that had a vision we all came to see...and continue to see." An experience Fran says she will never forget is when that very man...with that very vision...yep, The Head Bean Hisself came to visit her store! The event was so big that she had to set up a tent for folks to meet Gary and have their Stuff signed! "You would have thought he was a movie star!" Fran told us. "We had people sneaking in from behind the tent to get a picture. I had people come from all over the East Coast!" The Old Blue Barn is located just off I-84 in Plainville, Connecticut. From I-84, take Exit 33 to Exit 1. At the end of the ramp, take a right. The Old Blue Barn is about 100 yards on the right set back off the road. Check out their website at www.theoldbluebarn.com or give Fran a jingle at 860-747-5205. |

Since 1973, the American Cancer Society has marked the beginning of spring with Daffodil Days. In 2005, Daffodil Days will be March 14-20.
Individuals and organizations can pre-order daffodils for delivery during the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days. Therefore, Pennsylvania communities need Pre-Sales Coordinators! Pre-sales Coordinators accept daffodil orders prior to Daffodil Days, submit orders to the American Cancer Society prior to the deadline, and coordinate deliveries of flowers to supporters. A bunch of 10 flowers is available for a $7 donation. A quarter box of 130 daffodils is available for a $90 donation. A half box of 250 daffodils is available for a $175 donation. A box of 500 daffodils is available for a $350 donation.
If you are interested in helping in the fight against cancer through volunteering, you or your business can participate in the 2005 Daffodil Days campaign by pre-selling daffodils during the month of February. We need your help! Please contact your local office of the American Cancer Society or 1.800.ACS.2345. To find your local office click here. |
