Boyds Donates to "Million Dollar Bear" campaign and "Burke's Tour"!!
- Bob Derr received a fax from Liz Smith this morning notifying him that Boyds was sending a check for
over $16,000 as their 1999 donation for the "Million Dollar Bear"
campaign and "Burke's Tour." That brings the total to over
$76,000!!!
Bob stated that they are honored to be a partner with The
Boyds Collection in their efforts to spread Burke P. Bear's
Ambassador message and to help create an awareness of / find a
cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

Boyds Wins Two TOBY's!!
- Our "sort of" trophy case is getting pretty darn full
these days. Nothing makes the Bears and Hares (and people) at Boyds more excited than winning awards! (except
a three-day weekend) Boyds won the Best Bear's "Friend" category for Roscoe P.
Bumpercrop, a 17" hare with a Green Thumb, complete with his very own
carrot…excuse us…we meant Award Winning Carrot! Boyds also won the Best
Figurine Award for Flash McBear and The Sitting. Boyds has won this category every
year. We must be getting' pretty good at this stuff…or the judges are easily
influenced by the green stuff!

Clark II - Only Available at Platinum Paw Dealers !!
- Poor Clark ... he's the wrong bear, in the wrong clothes
and has a case of mistaken identity (he was originally
supposed to be Lois but please don't tell him).
He's in the same red plaid as Lois, is 6 1/2" tall and would go great with
the original Lois and Clark. Boyds decided this poor little guy should only go to their
Platinum Paw stores so that's the only way to get him.

The Jodibears on QVC !!
- Eileen clarified questions on the Jodibears for us on our bulletin board:
The George and Martha bears are only about 5 or 5 1/2
inches high. The Betsie and Ross are 9 in. I am so
thrilled that they are coming out with the smaller version
as I am a collector of Jody Battaglias for about 4 yr. and
always thought that the Jodibears were too large! I met her
at shows in my area a couple of times around 1994 & l995 when
she was a new artist. She no longer comes to this area so I
have been very happy that she is doing some bears
for Gary.

Bailey's Cottage in the mail!!
- Karen posted on our Bulletin Board that she received Bailey's Cottage PE #1709 and
there is a lot more detail than she imagined. Very heavy piece
and 5" long, 4.5" deep and 5" high. When you have the roof on
you can't hardly tell where the separation is. Now the piece
inside is very tiny.

Chucklebeary Arrives - see pic!!

What a beauty!! He is a gorgeous periwinkle fur with sparklies
all over!! Light lavender and kinda deep pink accent colors for
the neck scrunchies and the buttons. He's so soft and squishy with velvety fur and kinda turquoise
sparkly thread thru out. Definitely a new look for
Boyds. Just thought I'd let ya know in case anyone was thinking
about getting him.
Karen scanned Mr Chucklebeary by physically placing him on the
scanner so you could see what he looks like. Now these scans
don't do him justice but I hope it helps some.

New Boyds Afghans !!
- Got this information from Mikki, Michelle's Gifts
Just got back from Dallas market ordering all kinds of new
wonderful things for the shop. The new afghans etc. from
Manuel Woodworkers and Weavers (who have the license to do
Boyds) are Sissie and Squirt, Huck with Mandy, Zoe & Zack
and TA DA ... a Purrstone group and a Dollstone group.
This is the first introduction of something other than the
Bearstones. I was so excited to see them I totally forgot
to write down which pieces so you'll just have to be
surprised once you see the pictures on the website
(not up yet...but soon).

flecks throughout his fur. His nose, collar & belly pom-poms

The FOB Club section of the Boyds website is finally open!
- Be patient logging in. I received an error message several
times telling me my member number was invalid. I just keep
typing it in and finally viola ~~ I was in! If you have
signed up previous years, when you renew your membership
number remains the same so you should be able to log in even
if you haven't renewed yet this year. You can also join or
renew your membership online with a credit card through the
site.
A bit of interesting news taken from the FOB newz section...
Starting with the Spring 2000 introductions (with a couple a
exceptions), all Open Editions of numbered collections will
be in editions of 6000. This includes the: Bearstones,
Folkstones, Dollstones, Potteryworks, etc. for Spring and
beyond. The exceptions to this will be the Le Bearmoges,
Bearly Built Villages amp; any Beatrice Collection porcelain
boxes introduced that will be numbered in Open Editions of
5100 (because THB turns 51 in February 2000). The 12" Open
Edition Dolls will continue to be numbered in editions of
5000. I don't want to spoil everyones fun so the rest you'll
have to read for yourself.
