(5/21/05) Boyds Clarion IA ... Big News
Many thanks to Jean Ann and Mark for posting this on our BB.
"I wanted to share some news with you all, I talked to Steve Schutt last night..about midnight and for those of you who know Steve that's standard operating procedure for him. He gets going on a project and just keeps working through the night. Anyway, Steve asked me to let you know that Boyds has announced who will be coming to the Boyds Festival in Clarion to represent the product develop team...Ready... Liz Smith and Michele Smith!!!! If you haven't had the opportunity to meet these two ladies you are in for a treat, they are wonderful respentatives for the bears that we love. They both are very friendly and collector oriented. Also signing from the Boyds Artisan Design Team will be Jody Battaglia, Alan Clark, Steve Orique and Steve Schutt.
If you haven't made your plans to be at the Sixth Annual Celebration of Boyds in Clarion on Sun. June 12th I strongly encourage you to do so. Steve said they will be accepting registrations through the end of May. You can go the the www.heartlandmuseum.org website or call Suzanne at 515-532-2751 for more information.
I have also heard that there will be a wonderful workshop of Boyds Decoys presented by my favorite Boyds Collector, Mark Sovereign. As well as Capt Ron and Kristy Northman talking about the Boyds Tracker and Steve Schutt doing a workshop titled "Teddy Bear Making 101."
This is a great opporunity for Buddies who live in the mid-west to have their favorite piece signed by one of the Boyds representatives attending and an excellent opportunity to find that rare or retired piece at the All "Boyd-Stuff" Sales Room. We hope to see many old friends and get meet new collectors at the Celebration".

The new Boyds fabrics have 5 different patterns. Bee bear, Daisydew bear, nekkid bears, baby design, square pattern with bear face inside.
They are being found at local Walmart's, Joann's stores and Hobby Lobby shops.

The reserved seats for the QVC show in Pigeon Forge have been filled. There will be a limited number of first come, first served seats available the day of the show.
OLD INFO ON SHOW RESERVATIONS: If ya wanna join in on the fun...and maybe even get yer mug on camera...all ya gotta do is call 1-888-654-6215 ext. 3939 on May 16 at 10am EST and leave yer name and phone number. If ya get a call back on May 23 you're in (just pick up your tickets at Guest Relations starting at 10am on June 22)! Tickets are limited and expected to go fast! ALSO, there will also be a very limited supply of seats available on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the show...so stop by Guest Relations beginning at 10am to get 'em before they're gone too!
While you're in the store, make sure you visit Boyds' VP of Stuff, Liz Smith who will be signing from 12-2pm.

Laura from Boyds will be at Covered Wagon Crafts (Shirley is a Boyds Home reunion Retailer) in Chillicothe, IL on June 6th at 12:00pm to talk about the Boyds Home Reunions/Boyds Bear Advisor Program. There will be a light lunch, games, and prizes. If anyone is interested in going and seeing Laura you can contact Rebel for further details.

The distinction of a brand to be able to become a real part of life for nearly everyone is an honor shared by a select few icons of our culture. (5/20/05) BOYDS BEAR COUNTRY HOSTS ARMED FORCES FAMILY CELEBRATION FEATURING LOCAL TROOP GREETINGS AND CHINOOK CHOPPER LANDING

When the Folks at Boyds Bear Country in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania do something - there's only one way they do it - big! That's just how "The World's Most Humongous Teddy Bear Store" plans to celebrate the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces and the strong families that stand behind them as they defend our country's freedom. The celebration, to be held May 21 from nine o'clock am until five o'clock pm at the family-oriented shopping, dining and entertainment destination, marks the first time in many years that a major celebration of Armed Forces Day will be held in the Gettysburg area.
"It's just such a natural fit for the area," Boyds Bear Country Manager James Elwell stated, "this is a very patriotic region where the military is a major part of our lives, culture and economy. We saw that there have been no major celebrations to honor these courageous men and women and their families in the Gettysburg region, so we're stepping up to the plate." Coordinated in conjunction with all branches of the military, veterans and other military service and family support organizations; the all-day event will feature hands-on, interactive displays and presentations designed to be both fun and educational as well as a show of honor for the sacrifices that service men and women and their families make for the well-being of us and our families. "What makes this celebration unique and touching is the focus on the family aspect of military service," said David Tebo, Area Chair for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), "members of the Armed Forces have family and friends just like anyone. They're soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, but they're people, too." Doors open at 9:00am and festivities begin shortly after with a star-spangled parachute jump, including the first-ever parachuting Boyds Bear, to kick off the opening ceremony, a live landing and display of a massive, twin rotor Chinook troop transport helicopter, equipment and artillery displays featuring a Howitzer, five-ton vehicle and a restored Korean War-vintage Willys Jeep; a mini Air Force Raptor jet replica, a presentation by the Army Heritage Center at Carlisle Barracks, an Army rock climbing wall, and more. Representatives of all branches of the service will make addresses; present information, history, tools of the trade and answer questions all day long while crowds are entertained with live patriotic music performances. State Representative Stephen Maitland is also scheduled to make an address. The standout, can't miss event of the day, will take place around noon with greetings home from local troops serving overseas. Greetings to the troops from visitors and the signing of an ESGR pledge of support for the jobs of employees of The Boyds in the service will be taped and sent back to the troops. Visitors will also be able e-mail messages to troops through a dedicated terminal. Visitors may honor military and veteran loved ones by placing their photo on the Wall of Honor or posting a flag in the Field of Honor. Respectfully, a Missing Man Table, Fallen Comrade Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and Healing Field, a nationally recognized display honoring those who have given their lives in the war on terror, will also be on display to pay honor and tribute to those who gave all. Members of the Armed Forces or their spouses with military ID will be recognized throughout the day and given complimentary plush Boyds Military Bears. A local Girl Scout Troop will also give free Girl Scout Cookies to anyone in uniform or with a military ID.
